This Week’s Running

2 min read

Without a goal race on the horizon I am becoming increasingly of the belief that it’s important for me to have a plan at the start of the week for my running. After a few small weeks mileage recently I decided over last weekend it’s time to ramp up the mileage this week, the only reason being I have been missing getting out running everyday and haven’t done a long run for a couple of weeks now.

Not long after setting my weeks plan I noticed this week’s weather forecast and it’s not flash. Rain, rain and you guessed it more rain. I have been lucky for the first two runs of my week to have them coincide with breaks in the rain through pure luck as they have both been early morning runs before work. Monday I ran 8km this morning I had a bit more time and ran 11km.

The plan for the rest of the week is to run everyday except Sunday as I have a sprint triathlon race planned, weather permitting of course. 300m swim, 9 km ride, 2.5km run x 2 Enduro format which basically means normal triathlon order and then do it again. I like these fun types of triathlon, for me being a much stronger runner then swimmer or cyclist they give me a run in the middle of the race which means I should catch up to some of the stronger swim, bikers and hopefully give them a run for their money.

The rest of the week is running. Wednesday another 8-10km, Thursday I am off work so I’m hoping for 22-25km long run along the beach and beach trails (I’ll take some photos), Friday recovery 5-7km (barefoot) and Saturday a faster tempo run probably another 8-10km. Should get me around 60-70km for the week.

If the rain keeps coming down like it has so far the last couple of days I may be taking the covers off the treadmill this week for some of these runs. I’m not a huge fan of running on a treadmill but I have one and it’s better then catching a cold running in the rain. I know some people love running in the rain but getting a cold and missing more running, races or feeling lousy doesn’t seem worth it to me.

I’m off to a good start dodging rain so I’m hoping this luck I’m having continues all week and particularly during my long run.
