2014 Early Season Goals
2 min readAfter time to research and think about what I want to achieve from my running at the start of the coming new year I have decided on a couple of goal races.
I’d like to start earlier than March but I can’t find a race close enough to home that appeals so I’ll start my races in March 9th for the Port Macquarie Running Festival Half marathon. I really good small race in my home town, this year I returned from injury and ran 1:24 there and will look to improve on that time.
Four weeks later I plan my A goal of the first part of the year and a new event or at least a new distance at an established event being the marathon at the Newcastle Running Festival on April 6th. The half should be a good lead in event for a road marathon. This year my only marathon distance event has been over 50km and I went through 42.2km in 3:29 there and suffering badly. I need to improve on thaf effort for sure,.
My goal in Newcastle or ‘Newrun’ or as the event is now called will be breaking three hours, something I have not done over the marathon distance with a PB of 3:05. It’s certainly not beyond me. I will definetly need to focus my speed sessions on this goal. I also have to convince my partner to postpone our trip to Korea by a couple of weeks so I can run here. That’s another story altogether.
After these races I want to sign up for at least two Ultra events over the course of the rest of the year, I am not sure where they will be just yet. I will get the nfirst two out of the way first.
