Marathon training week 7
2 min readTraining last week hasn’t gone exactly to plan, things were on track until the weekend and then after beginning to get a cough and head cold on Friday I woke up Saturday morning with a bad head cold. Bad sore throat, cough, runny nose, bad head ache and zero energy. The long run planned for Saturday wasn’t going to happen. I couldn’t have run a 100m let alone a long run. I spent most of Saturday and Sunday in bed recovering and also today as I needed to take a sick leave day from work. Starting to feel better now but still need to get better before i’ll return to focused training.
This week I need to focus on recovery from this illness and take a step back from training before I refocus. If I’m feeling good by Friday I will start my training program again.
Monday – Rest
Tuesday – Rest
Wednesday – Aerobic run (30 min at 5 – 5:20 min/km)
Thursday – Rest
Friday – Intervals
Saturday – Rest
Sunday – Hill repeats
Not an ideal time for me to get sick and have to limit my training. Missing two weeks of long runs will have some impact on my running but it’s better to be healthy when I run long again. I do have the opportunity to run two long runs in week 8, I will assess this option after this week.
I’ll be looking forward to getting back out there by Wednesday as my last run was last Thursday. Stopping a runner from running is not a good thing.

I hope you feel better soon.
You are doing the right thing. Your training can get back on track. Hope you feel better soon.
It’s the right thing to rest. You’ve already got a good base level of running fitness that taking the time off shouldn’t harm your training too severely. Hope you feel better soon.
